Boris Arencibia, CEO at Caribe Promotions,
who handle the career of WBO & WBA super bantamweight world champion
Guillermo "The Jackal" Rigondeaux (14-0, 9 KO's), says his company
is willing to satisfy the recent order that was issued by the World
Boxing Organization, ordering the two-time Olympic gold medal winner to
face mandatory WBO challenger Chris Avalos (24-2-0) 18 KO's. In
addition, the American Avalos is ranked as #1 by the IBF and #5 in the
WBA.
Arencibia has already made calls over to Top Rank and
initiated discussions to reach an agreement. Because none of the other
champions are willing to face Rigondeaux, the entire team believes
Avalos is the best possible option at the moment.
"We have an
enormous amount of respect for Chris Avalos. At the present Caribe
Promotions and Top Rank are negotiating the terms of this bout. We have
30 days to reach an agreement and we are working hard to get it,"
Arencibia said.
"Caribe Promotions and all of Rigo’s team have the
best intentions to make this fight happen. We wish to make the best
fights. We have even challenged other champions, such as [Leo] Santa
Cruz in the past and we haven’t heard anything from his camp. I don’t
want to think that they are unwilling to fight Rigondeaux due
their fear of losing, but everything is indicating to us that they won't
fight, at least for now, so Avalos is a good choice."
"Top Rank
promotes Chris Avalos and since the WBO ordered the fight against
Guillermo Rigondeaux, we have been making some calls to reach an
agreement as soon as possible. This will be a good fight. Avalos is a
great warrior and has earned his chance for a world title fight against
"The Jackal" Rigondeaux."
