Amateur Star Ramón Luis Pro Debut Set, July 10 In Miami

Former amateur standout Ramón Luis will make his pro debut July 10th in Miami, according to Jay Jimenez, CEO of King Kong Boxing who signed the boxer following his defection from Cuba earlier this year.

His debut comes on the undercard of the super featherweight title fight rematch between Argenis Mendez and Rances Barthelemy. The show airs live on Fox Sports 1 from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, though Luis isn’t scheduled to appear on the telecast.


With the latest signing, Jimenez adds to a growing stable that also includes heavyweight prospect Luis Ortiz. In Luis, the promoter has a potential star in the light heavyweight division. Both fighters in Miami under the careful watch of Herman Caicedo.

"We just signed Ramon Luis and hopefully very soon, other talented fighters will join us– not just from Cuba but from all countries,” notes Jimenez. “We have huge plans for Ramón Luis and his debut on July 10th is just the beginning."

Luis newly arrived in the United States, after participating with the Cuban team “Domadores de Cuba” in Tijuana, Mexico. He immediately reached out to Jimenez following the competition in Mexico, signing with the Miami businessman soon therafter. Hooking up in training camp with his countryman Ortiz, all parties are pleased with the progress heading into his pro debut.
“Ramón Luis and Luis Ortiz training with Caicedo in South Florida and we are pleased with the rapid progress with Ramón,” Jimenez adds. “We have great confidence in his talent and we know that this young man is destined to become world champion. Soon the boxing world will be able to admire the talent of Luis Ramón.”
